Latest update: well, so much for the Bowne job. They got rid of most of the workforce there a few weeks ago, including me. So, at the moment I’m trying to figure out what to do nex, whther to try to get back into freelance proofreading, editing & typesetting, or hunt for another fulltime job. [...]

Into that good night

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Happy New Year, folks. My Xmas gift this year was… getting told by management that I’d be moved to the graveyard shift (10pm to 6:30am) beginning Jan 26th. Sigh.
In other news, pleased to see a few more notices for the Jim McAuley album:

Ben Ratliff in the NY Times: nice to see that Jim gets a [...]

Baby steps

Have just done a big reinstall of the site & am trying to clean up the nasty spamlinking that was added in here after it was hacked. Let’s see if this works, or if stronger measures are needed….. there’s a lot of cleanup needed on the posts, but I want to see if the spambot [...]

An update

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

As you’ll have noticed the site’s been very erratically updated in the past year. Thought I’d bring the story up to date with a short post. — Since late January I’ve been working as a proofreader for Bowne, a large (worldwide) financial publisher that has several major sites in Toronto. It’s been an up-and-down but [...]

March Break

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Dear friends and fans,
I am going to tell you about march break and what I’ve been doing. Two weeks ago I went to a camp with my school called Norvel. There we talk and do activities about and with nature. We got to stay over night and have breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Last week, [...]

The new year

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Been a while since I’ve published a what-am-I-doing-nowadays post, largely because there wasn’t a lot I felt like posting about. But, here’s a short version of what I’ve been doing since the new year began:

a brief visit to Halifax to visit my family. Mostly reminded me that, while there’s much to be said for Toronto [...]

For Mwanji

Friday, October 6th, 2006

The two older cats just had their annual vet visit. Hamlet is now officially 24.7 pounds (a gain of a pound from last year)… & it’s time to put him on a diet. This is going to be tricky as we have two other quite slim cats who definitely do not need a diet.

End of the week

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Was in the library today picking up a stack of books to read (Mwanji will be glad to know I got Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), in part because the book I was reading, Le Fanu’s Uncle Silas, seems to be irremediably lost somewhere in the house. (I was reading it one night, & [...]

Samantha, by Anne

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

This week we got a new cat named Samantha. She’s two years old with a black dot on her nose two eyes like balls of fire and a black body with markings like Hamlet. We got her at Petsmart on Highway 7 we got her on August 25. She has her on private pillar, litterbox [...]

The most tedious thing about having an English degree…

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

…is that if you ever mention it at a social gathering, the inevitable response is: “So, who really wrote Shakespeare’s plays?”
Feh. Anyway, latest updates: just did my 4th proofreading test of the summer in yet another effort to secure a regular proofreading job (as usual, I aced it — I’m getting tired of repeatedly proving [...]
