This is the kind of disc that will appeal only to those listeners who think the most interesting gigs at Victoriaville happen after midnight, when Levasseur usually slots the Japanese noise bands and the like. The tracks on Hada Hada are virtually interchangeable: an echoey electronic mess that’s tattooed with gut-punching enthusiasm by drummer Takaaki Masuko. When I put this disc on the stereo I found the rest of my family members rapidly holed themselves up in the other end of the house behind closed doors. A good CD to clear a room with, then – but once it’s done its job you’ll definitely want to put something better worth your while on the stereo.

For what it’s worth, some reviewers managed to find merit in this disc: there were positive writeups in The Wire and Signal to Noise, and a few others linked to above. I still think this one a waste of time, though. (N.D. 31 Aug 2004)
